Sulphur Black 1 is the principal sulfur-class dye used to obtain deep black shades on cotton and similar cellulosic fibers. It is produced as an insoluble polymeric material and is applied through a reduction/solubilization step followed by oxidation to regenerate the insoluble black on the fibre.
Optimized for high depth and economical consumption in bulk dyehouses; manufactured under quality controls for lot-to-lot consistency.
Sulfur dyes give economical black with good wash fastness; vat dyes can give superior lightfastness but at higher cost and process complexity.
Sulphur black 1 Mainly used for cotton, paper, leather, etc.

Sulphur Black 1 is an industrial chemical; standard precautions apply — avoid inhalation of dust, avoid skin & eye contact, use suitable PPE and good ventilation. In case of accidental release follow containment and disposal measures indicated in the SDS. Consult the product SDS for full emergency procedures.
Store in dry, cool, well-ventilated area; keep containers closed; avoid oxidizers.

Sulphur dyeing is a different mechanism than reactive dyeing — sulfur dyes are reduction/oxidation applied and are typically preferred for economical deep blacks on cotton rather than for applications needing bright reactive colors.
Traditional sulfur dyeing uses sulfide reducing agents, which require careful effluent treatment. Low-sulfide and alternative reducing systems are available to reduce environmental load.
Sulfur dyes are primarily for cellulosic fibers; some blends or modified processes can target other fibers but performance varies widely.
