Solvent Red 111

Solvent Red 111 is Transparent red GS series solvent dyes, used alone can give transparent plastic clear and bright color; Mixed with titanium dioxide, it produces amazing results. Transparent red GS can also be used as a secondary or primary color in combination with other pigments.

TRADE NAME:

Transparent Red GS,Morplas Red AAP,Sandoplast Red PFS,Akasol Red B,Krasol Red G,Simpsol Red 24613,Vicosol Red 111,Waxol Red KMA,Waxoline Red MPS

Feature and Advantage

  • ‍Solvent red dye 111 with high heat resistance, soluble in acetone, ethanol, fibrin and linflax oil, slightly soluble in benzene and carbon tetrachloride, insoluble in stout solvent; The general dosage of the transparent color of the product is 0.02% ~ 0.05%, and the normal dosage of the opaque color is about 0.1%. The heat resistance can reach 240℃ ~ 300℃, the fastness to sunlight is grade 6 ~ 7, grade 7 ~ 8, and the resistance to migration is grade 3 ~ 4, the coloring strength is 100% ± 3%.
  • The heat resistance of the product can reach 300/5min in styrene, 260-280/5min in ABS, 350/5min in polycarbonate and 280/5min in nylon 6.
  • Perrin, ethanol, fibrinolysin and linseed oil, slightly soluble in benzene and carbon tetrachloride, insoluble in stout solvent. It is brown in concentrated sulfuric acid and dark orange after dilution.
  • Preparation method: 1-chloroallium or allium-1-sulfonic acid is treated with methylamine under pressure and in the presence of an oxidant.‍

Application

Main used in coloring different kinds of plastics, such as PS,HIPS,ABS,PMMA,AS,PET,RPVC,SAN,etc. also used in resin, wax, ink and fibre. It can be used as the intermediate of dyes and pigments. It has the same chemical structure as c.l.disse red 9.

How to assess the quality of Solvent Red 111?

The quality of Solvent Red 111 can be comprehensively evaluated through the following key indicators and practical detection methods, which are in line with the industrial standard GB/T 25816-2010 for solvent dyes:

  • Appearance inspection: Qualified Solvent Red 111 should be a uniform bright red powder with an orange undertone, no obvious agglomeration, black spots, white particles, or other impurities. If the color is dull, grayish, or has uneven particles, it indicates poor quality.
  • Particle size detection: Use an 80-mesh standard sieve to sieve the sample; the residue of high-quality products should be ≤2.0%. Excessive residue means the grinding fineness is insufficient, which will affect the solubility and dispersion in the substrate.
  • Solubility test: Take 1g of the sample and add it to 100mL of xylene at 25℃, stir for 20 minutes. Qualified products should be completely dissolved, and the solution should be transparent, without precipitation, turbidity, or floating particles, showing a vivid red color with an orange undertone.
  • Moisture and volatile matter determination: Dry the sample at 105±2℃ for 2 hours until constant weight. The moisture and volatile matter content of qualified Solvent Red 111 should be ≤1.0%. High content will lead to weight loss during use, affecting the accuracy of the dosage and the stability of the formulation.
  • Tinting strength comparison: Mix the sample and the standard Solvent Red 111 with PP resin at the same dosage (0.05%), process them into standard color plates, and compare the color depth under natural light. The tinting strength of the qualified sample should be 100-110% of the standard sample. If the tinting strength is too low, it means the effective component content is insufficient.
  • Fastness verification: For the plastic color plate made of the sample, test the light fastness according to ISO 105-B02—qualified products should have a light fastness of ≥grade 5. Test the heat resistance by placing the color plate in an oven at 220℃ for 30 minutes; the color change should be ≤grade 2. Products with unqualified fastness are prone to fading, discoloration, or darkening in practical use.
  • Heavy metal and harmful substance detection: Use atomic absorption spectrometry to detect heavy metal content—total heavy metals should be ≤20 ppm, and individual heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Hg, As) should meet the limits of EU REACH regulations. Use gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to detect harmful aromatic amines, which should not be detected.

When should Solvent Red 111 be selected instead of pigment red?

Solvent Red 111 is preferred when transparency, gloss and uniform coloration are required, especially in clear plastics, inks and wax systems where pigments cannot dissolve.

Is Solvent Red 111 suitable for high-temperature processing?

Yes. Solvent Red 111 is known for good thermal stability during extrusion and injection molding, making it suitable for engineering plastics and specialty resin systems.

How does Solvent Red 111 perform in transparent applications?

Because it dissolves completely in compatible media, Solvent Red 111 provides excellent clarity without specks or haze, ideal for transparent or translucent products.

Is Solvent Red 111 suitable for outdoor use?

It offers reasonable light stability for a solvent dye, but for prolonged outdoor exposure, performance should be evaluated based on end-use requirements.
