Solvent Orange 3

High-performance solvent dye for vivid orange coloration in printing inks, solvent-based coatings, plastics and oil identification.

Product overview

Solvent Orange 3 is a solvent-soluble dye engineered to produce clean, saturated orange shades with good transparency and strong tinting strength. It dissolves readily in common organic carriers (aromatics, aliphatics, esters) and performs well in printing inks, solvent-based coatings and certain plastics (PS, HIPS, PMMA).

TRADE NAME:

Oil orange Y,Chrysoidine Y

Key Features

  • Bright, warm orange color with good tinting strength in organic media.
  • Good solubility in common organic solvents and hydrocarbon carriers.
  • Compatible with many solvent-based resin systems and oils.
  • Easy to disperse; suitable for printing inks, coatings and polish formulations.

Benefits for formulators

  • Easy dispersion and fast solvation in organic media.
  • Bright, reproducible color in finished systems.
  • Low impact on viscosity at typical use levels.

Application

mainly used in coloring different kinds of plastics, such as PS,HIPS,ABS,PMMA,AS,PET,RPVC,SAN,etc. Also used in oil products, printing ink , smoke dye and stationery, etc.

Practical handling & formulation notes

  • Pre-dissolve in the chosen carrier solvent; use high-shear or mild heat cautiously to improve dispersion.
  • Start trials at low concentrations for transparent systems; use masterbatches for opaque polymers.
  • Test for migration and compatibility with target resins under processing conditions.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from strong oxidizers.

Which solvents dissolve Solvent Orange 3 best?

Solvent Orange 3 dissolves readily in aromatic solvents (toluene, xylene), mineral spirits, and many esters/ketones used in coatings.Polar solvents and water do not typically dissolve it. Always test in your specific formulation.

How to determine the correct dosage?

Recommended dosing varies by application and shade depth required. Start with small pilot batches and increase concentration until the desired color strength is reached. We recommend compatibility and lightfastness testing before finalization.

Does Solvent Orange 3 affect resin cure or performance?

In most solvent-based systems the dye is compatible, but interactions can occur with certain reactive systems. Pre-test at production conditions to verify cure, adhesion and other performance attributes.
