Solvent Brown 41

Solvent Brown 41 is an organic solvent dye belonging to the azo dye class. It is mainly used for coloring plastics, synthetic fibers, wood stains, leather finishes, and certain inks. Known for its good solubility in organic solvents and strong affinity for polymer substrates, Solvent Brown 41 provides stable brown shades with good transparency and high gloss, making it a versatile choice in industrial applications.

Solvent Brown 41 soluble in ethanol, acetone and benzene. Brown in concentrated sulfuric acid, red brown after dilution; orange solution in concentrated nitric acid, yellow after dilution. When hydrochloric acid is added into the dye aqueous solution, the color will not change; when 10% sodium hydroxide is added, orange precipitate will appear.

What industries commonly use Solvent Brown 41?

Solvent Brown 41 is widely applied in the plastics, wood finishing, leather, and printing ink industries. It is chosen for its ability to produce warm brown tones with good transparency and durability, making it suitable for decorative and functional applications.

Is Solvent Brown 41 suitable for high-temperature plastic processing?

Yes. Solvent Brown 41 has stable heat resistance, which allows it to withstand common plastic processing conditions such as extrusion and injection molding without significant discoloration or degradation.

How does Solvent Brown 41 perform in terms of lightfastness?

Solvent Brown 41 generally offers moderate lightfastness, which may vary depending on the substrate and application method. In coatings and plastics with UV stabilizers, its performance can be enhanced to ensure longer color retention.

Can Solvent Brown 41 be blended with other dyes or pigments?

Yes, it is compatible with many solvent dyes and pigments. This property allows formulators to create customized shades, from reddish-browns to deeper chocolate tones, for specific design or industrial needs.

What are the main advantages of using Solvent Brown 41 in wood stains?

When used in wood stains, Solvent Brown 41 provides uniform penetration, natural-looking brown hues, and a glossy finish. It also enhances grain visibility, which is especially valued in furniture and decorative wood products.
