Direct Black 17

Direct Black 17 Soluble in water for violet black, 80℃ in the solubility of 20 g/L, soluble in ethanol gray light purple. The strong sulfuric acid is a deep blue in green, orange brown after diluted precipitation. The dye solution to join strong hydrochloric acid for dark brown, have precipitation. Adding concentrated sodium hydroxide solution in gray light purple precipitate. Cellulose fiber of dyeing, the dye absorption rate as well, in 40 ~ 80℃ maximum of affinity, discharge the gender is good.

Direct Black 17 alias direct ash, direct large ash, direct ash 6BR. Appearance is generally black uniform powder. Water soluble, soluble in water, purple-black, soluble in alcohol, grayish purple. Dark blue green in concentrated sulfuric acid After dilution, there is a purple-brown precipitate; the aqueous solution with concentrated hydrochloric acid has a dark brown precipitate, and the concentrated sodium hydroxide has a purple precipitate.

Application:

Direct Black 17 Used for cotton or viscose dyeing, is not used for printing. Can also be used for silk, PVA, polyamide fiber and its blended fabric dyeing.

Use condition:

  • ‍1. It has been used for dyeing cotton or viscose fiber to obtain cyan ash to green black. For example, after diazotization, it is colored by naphthol to obtain navy, and it is black by m-toluene diamine. The dyeing rate is good, the dyeing property is poor, sensitive to salt, the dyeing should be slowly heated and the salt is added to control the dyeing to obtain uniform color. After dyeing, the dyeing solution should be naturally cooled to 40~80 °C, which is good for dye exhaustion. .
  • 2. It has been used for dyeing rich fiber, good dyeing rate, light color is slightly darker than cotton dyeing. It has also been used for dyeing silk and its fabrics. It can be dyed with acetic acid and Yuanming powder. When dyeing vinyl fabric, dyeing The rate is still good, the color is lighter than the viscose fiber is blue. When the cotton, viscose fiber and other fibers are dyed in the same bath, the silk, wool and cotton and viscose fiber have a similar depth, but the red light gray, the second vinegar fiber gets the yellow light. Brown, polyester, acrylic fiber are brownish gray.
  • 3. Direct Black 17 is generally not used for direct printing. When the ground color is discharged, the discharge performance is good.
  • 4. It has been widely used in the dyeing and printing of viscose or silk fabrics, and is often used in color matching with yellow, red, blue and brown dyes. It has also been used for dyeing cotton knits and carpets.‍

Precautions

Direct Black 17 contains a carcinogenic aromatic amine pair - citrin, which is a banned dye.

FAQ

How does Direct Black 17 maintain its color strength during washing?

The dye’s molecular structure ensures strong binding to fibers, reducing color loss during repeated washing and maintaining a deep, consistent black shade.

Can Direct Black 17 be used in continuous dyeing processes?

Yes, it is compatible with both batch and continuous dyeing processes, offering stable performance and minimal bleeding even in high-speed industrial operations.

Is Direct Black 17 environmentally friendly?

Direct Black 17 is designed to minimize chemical wastage and supports eco-friendly dyeing practices when used with proper wastewater treatment methods.

How to achieve the darkest black shade using Direct Black 17?

To achieve optimal depth, control the pH and temperature according to the fiber type, and ensure uniform dye dispersion throughout the bath for maximum absorption.
