TRADE NAME

Methyl violet 2B,Basic Violet 2B

key features

  • Commercial names: Basic Violet 1, Methyl Violet 2B, C.I. Basic Violet 1 (CAS 8004-87-3)
  • Color / appearance: deep violet–purple powder; produces vivid purple solutions
  • Chemical class: triarylmethane basic (cationic) dye
  • Solubility: water-soluble (solubility varies by grade), soluble in ethanol and some organic solvents
  • Typical applications: textile dyeing (cotton, silk, wool), biological staining, inks, paper marking, leather dyeing
  • Fastness notes: moderate wash fastness on cellulosic fibers; better affinity on protein/keratin fibers with appropriate mordanting or carriers
  • pH behavior: solution color and stability sensitive to strong acids/alkalis (color shifts and precipitates can occur)
  • Handling & storage: store in a cool, dry, dark place; keep containers tightly closed

Liquid properties

  • Drying quickly: having strong affinity for fibers / substrates in weak acid bath, with bright color and good compatibility, suitable for large-scale continuous production.
  • Color fastness: Wool/cotton has light fastness of 1-2 grades and washing fastness of 2-3 grades; Acrylic/silk has washing fastness of 4 grades and sweat fastness of 4 grades, and dry rubbing fastness of 3 grades. Suitable for scenarios without sun resistance requirements.‍

Application:

Basic Violet 1 used for dyeing and printing cotton, wool and silk. This product is mainly used for non-textile coloring and can also be used to make organic Pigments and solvent dyes can also be used for paper, leather, bio-staining, as well as for coloring and marking of film and varnish.
