Acid Black 1

Acid Black 1 Appearance is dark brown powder. Soluble in water, blue-black, soluble in ethanol, blue, slightly soluble in acetone, insoluble in other organic solvents. In case of concentrated sulfuric acid, it is blue-green, dilute to form dark green blue precipitate; The concentrated nitric acid is dark green solution, and then converted into sauce red, which is diluted to form a dark green light blue precipitate; when the concentrated nitric acid is dark green solution, it turns into sauce red; when 10% sodium hydroxide solution is brilliant blue. The aqueous solution was concentrated with hydrochloric acid to form a green blue precipitate; a sodium hydroxide solution was added to form a blue precipitate.

Application:

Mainly used for wool, silk, polyamide fiber and its blended fabric dyeing and printing, also can be used for paper, electrical-controlled aluminum, soap, wood, biological, leather, medicine and cosmetics shading, also can be used in the manufacture of ink.

Acid Black 1 Use condition:

  • ‍1.Acid Black 1(Acid Black 10B) is used for dyeing and printing wool, silk, nylon and its blended fabrics. It can also be used for coloring paper, anodized aluminum, soap, wood, biology, leather, medicine and cosmetics. It can also be used to make ink.
  • 2. Wool dyeing: In a strong acid or weakly acidic bath, the pH of the dyeing solution is adjusted to 3~5, and the leveling powder can be used as a retarding agent to improve the leveling property.
  • 3. Blending of blended fabrics: When wool and various fibers are dyed in the same bath, the apparent color depth of nylon and silk is close to that of wool, acrylic fiber is stained, and cellulose fiber is not stained.
  • 4. When dyeing, the color of copper ions changes slightly, and the color of iron ions is slightly lighter and greener.
  • 5. Acid Black 1 (Acid black 10B) dyeing wool can obtain cyan black, the wet processing fastness is poor, generally can be replaced by weak acid black BR; the dyeing fastness on silk is poor, rarely applied.‍

FAQ

Which fibres does Acid Black 1 work best on?

Primarily protein fibres (wool, silk) and polyamide (nylon). It gives deepest, most reliable results on wool and nylon.

What dyeing method and pH are recommended?

Use an acid bath method with acetic acid or formic acid; typical pH range 3.5–5.0 for best exhaustion and levelness.

How to achieve consistent deep black shades?

Control liquor ratio, add dye slowly for even distribution, maintain stable temperature ramp-up, and use leveling auxiliary if needed.

Storage and safety notes?

Store dry in a cool, ventilated area away from strong oxidizers. Avoid inhalation and contact—use standard PPE and follow local regulations for handling and waste.
